“Worry about loving yourself instead of loving the idea of other people loving you.” – Anonymous

Ruts are the worst. There’s that feeling of a lingering energy that is telling you can’t accomplish this and that you aren’t deserving of something else. Well, guess what? You can and you are. This is just our own brains tricking us into believing the worst. Only accept the best thoughts to pass through your brain to get out of a rut, and include some love for yourself in there.

My Summer Morning Routine + Workout 2017

“The sun is a daily reminder that we too can rise again from the darkness, that we too can shine our light.” – S. Ajna

For most summer mornings, my schedule is very relaxed and balanced as I try not to give myself such a strict schedule as I would during the school year. I allow myself to do what feels right to me in that moment; however, there are a few things of importance that I like to get done before I go into that complete mindset of tranquility.

How to change your mindset | Tips

July 28, 2017

“The secret to “having it all” is believing you already do.” – Anonymous

Last Monday I shared some tips I’ve picked up about staying positive and I realized that your mindset is a big part of your success. Naturally, I felt the urge to reward this topic its own post. Your mind is the source of all power within your body. Any action you complete is your decision. By choosing the scary and challenging things, we test our capability and exceed beyond our own expectations. We are able to do this because of our current mindset.

Staying Positive | Tips

July 24, 2017

“Show respect even to people who don’t deserve it; not as a reflection of their character, but as a reflection of yours.” – Dave Willis

Maintaining a positive attitude can be so rewarding; but like any good thing, it takes time and practice. Thinking positively will only do great things for you; however simply telling you that isn’t showing you the benefits and possibilities you could encounter. This may sound so cliche, but I promise you, with each joyful thought comes a brighter rainbow.

I like to call it ‘the boomerang effect’ or the common practice, the Law of Attraction. Essentially, both of these methods is the idea that whatever you send out in the world will find its way back to you. So if you send out nothing but positive energy, that same energy will repay in the area where it is most needed. Most people like to use the Law of Attraction to gain things like a new car, home, boyfriend/girlfriend, a significant amount of money, etc., but I like to use for my mental state, assuring that my mood and surroundings are always the way I want them to be. Obviously, this new state of mind isn’t going to prevent any bad experience in your lifetime, but it might just help you find the courage to face these things head on.

Be the change you want to see in the world

Simply being aware of every thought, every word you are expressing during your day will be very effective for your mood and will help you realize what negative thoughts you tend to repeat to yourself and others. Like we discussed earlier, any energy you send out will find its way back to you, good or bad. That is why it is so important to actually try the practice of positive thinking because it will totally change your mindset and reward you.

If you want to attract certain people in your life, then behave in the manner that you would like the people around you to; only then you will draw those like-minded people into your life and increase your own positivity.

Complete the relaxing things

Sometimes, we just totally need those comforting things that instantly make us feel better. Honestly? Being stressed and STILL trying to find positive things in your life is hard work. Once you get the hang of it, it won’t be an extra chore on your to-do list and will totally reward you. Just let go and r e l a x – everything will still be there when you come back, so no need to worry about it. You need this time to recharge your inspiration and overall sanity.

Treat yourself to a spa day. Know that these breaks will give your mind a break to zoom out and look at everything from a different perspective. Only then will you be able to complete your work successfully and happily. Take a well-deserved breather.

Replace the bad with the good

To change a bad habit is to replace it with a good one. Anytime you find yourself believing you can’t do something, reverse your thoughts into saying you can. For the longest time, I fought with this mentality that I couldn’t do it, that I was too scared and inexperienced to try. Now I realize that life is literally too short to be filled with negativity and fear.

We must focus on the impossible and make it possible. We must act fiercely in all our actions. To do this, we have to change our mindset. To change your mindset, observe your habits and how they affect your actions. Realize what you need to do to discover that you are a positive and courageous person.

Find positive inspiration

So, you might be wondering, “Devynne, how do I possibly change my habits to improve my mindset?” Well, I cannot stress how important inspiration is for this procedure. It’s basically intelligence getting excited about new ideas and possibilities. I love that positive feeling of confidence that comes with inspiration.

As I mentioned in my post, How to successfully plan & keep long-term goals inspiration is why so many people are successful and happy with their success. They know where to look for inspiration to keep their creativity flowing. New possibilities are formed and a sense of purpose is found.

With that purpose, you discover tranquility and a spunky comfort. It can be a change of scenery, a motivating playlist full of your favorite songs, a new book, or even just scrolling through a lifestyle blog overflowing of incredible thoughts. Find your source and make it accessible for you so that the full experience can take effect.

Catch a few Zzz’s

Sleep is so important for our well-being. It’s up there with nutritious food and water – without it, we all are basically zombies searching for a purpose in life. Lack of sleep is one of the causes of headaches and bad moods; two things that can easily cause stress in the simplest of tasks and negativity. In order to feel your best and express that by being your full, productive self, make sure you are getting 8-9 hours of sleep.

Of course, we all have our ups and downs in life, so don’t feel guilty when you let one little negative thought slip you by. Like all good things, this practice will take time, so enjoy the process! This is a life changing experiment that can truly impact your mindset and outlook on everything. Stay strong and remember that we all have that positive light inside of us.

How to have a Spa Day | Tips

July 10, 2017

“Your calm mind is the ultimate weapon against your challenges. So relax.”  – Bryant McGill

The simple act of relaxation is just as important as the act of persistence within the work life. To maintain our sanity, we must learn to fully de-stress for incoming ideas. That is why having a spa day, rest day, cheat day – or whatever name you prefer – can enhance your ability to get things done. Obviously, we all do not have the luxury of visiting a local spa or access to a full day of relaxation. However, if you’re pressed for time or don’t have the chance to be a bit more flexible, these steps can be slowly applied to your daily routine to increase sanity for your inner workaholic.

Breathe

Too frequently we get tangled in the web of the terrifying worries of “what-ifs” in our hectic lives. How many times are you actually stepping back and listening instead of asking? During your spa day (or few minutes of tranquility), you should completely remove yourself from the projects you need to finish. Remove your mind from that source of worry and stress.

Meditation is a fantastic way to practice this ritual and kick off your self-care day/moment – you are able to shut out every worry that your brain has been feeding to you. Relax and understand that no matter what, you will find that the solution was always right in front of you.

Focus on what you love

Obviously, a day full of peace and mindfulness is going to be filled only with things you most enjoy (a Harry Potter marathon, planning your week, binge watching Vampire Diaries, etc.). But do you truly take your mind off of the stress originators? Remember that focusing on something else for a while isn’t a form of procrastination (unless you cut out all work time – THEN it becomes a problem), it is just the practice of contentment. Actually allowing those unproductive moments can cycle into being a moment of one of your best ideas.

If you are naturally a “precrastinator” and cannot fathom the thought of taking a break during work hours, brainstorm ideas for whatever it is you are working towards so that it doesn’t feel exactly like a form of laziness. Calmly approach your project with different forms of action. This will allow you to realize what steps you need to take towards your goals in order to put your mind at ease. And always remember, breaks are not the enemy. Over-working your body mentally and physically is.

Pamper and practice a little TLC

Okay, so we’ve discussed taking your mind completely off the origin of stress, but how about some tender loving care? Self-care is the most important habit an individual can practice. Without it, we wouldn’t really find purpose or love. So, do what you most enjoy doing. Blast some sick beats and throw on a charcoal face mask. Take a nice long bath with candles and read that book you’ve been waiting to read. This is YOUR time to shine.

Whatever your little heart has been desiring, do it. Whether it’s trying out a new restaurant or going shopping with your girlfriends, just do it! Just remember to be mindful about what you truly need for your break. Aka, treat yo self wisely.

To have an absolutely successful relaxation day/moment, you MUST remember that any outside noise or annoyance needs to be muted for the time being. Like, seriously. You can’t call it “relaxation” if you keep taking those calls from work, now can you? Please consider at least one of these tips. Relaxation time is most important to our well-being and will help you become more successful in all areas of your life.
